HOW WE CAN HELP

When my daughter began showing signs of Anorexia Nervosa in her mid teens I didn’t know what to do. Her friends were all concerned and spoke to me about their fears! Luckily I had a great GP who made an urgent referral when she was 18 and in crisis to the local Mental Health Team, twice. Finally they saw her and her initial treatment was appalling.

Then followed 11 years of treatment in Eating Disorder Units, at home, then in a house with others for 2 years before 6 months back home with me me and 6 1/2 months living independently in her own flat before her death. After the first admission involving Sectioning under the Mental Health Act.

I am able to speak with those involved in the care of people with ED’s and be an ear that really hears and understands the frustrations, difficulties and realities.  I had no one and don’t want anyone to be in that isolated land of terror I found myself in. If you live locally we can meet, if not we can FaceTime or zoom, emails or telephone calls all can be accessed.

I give talks to those training to be Mental Health First Aid Instructors, give talks to Medical Students, have been involved in setting up an ED Care Pathway and given talks to End of Life Care practitioners.

Please contact me and I will do what I can to help you through an inexplicably difficult time with understanding and learned experiences in an open and honest way! I am not a therapist or medical professional, I am just a mum whose daughter starved herself to death.
